Earth hour

I have to agree with Tim Blair's comment about the earth hour gestures. How can you possibly claim to support (the ridiculous) earth hour when all you do is change the time of the lighted activity. You still use the same amount of electricity. Will the candle light vigil afterwards actually mean more carbon is put into the air?
